bricks or breeze block?

given that both are locally manufactured, which would be more eco friendly to use, assuming other materials were not available? zac

Dense concrete block is likely to be better, as it takes less energy to make. Only the cement is fired; the stone and sand is dug out of the ground. With clay brick, all the material has to be fired at high temperature.

Have you check whether you can get unfired bricks locally manufactured and sourced? A number of manufacturers have begun production, including Ibstock.

thanks for the advice. actually it looks like the project will be going ahead mainly using adobe and some breeze block, which is great. It didnt look like the adobe would be feasible because of costs but thats changed now. Thanks for the information though, it feels counterintuitive because of the cement used in concrete blocks and the unnatural look of them, good to know the truth.
