What to do with old wall paper
« on: December 21, 2009, 12:47:38 PM »
I have recently bought a house (1880s, mid-terrace) and am making a series of alterations to it. I am very keen to ensure it is done in an environmentally responsible way.

The house is generally in a poor state and I am removing the old wallpaper with the view to re-skimming the uneven walls and painting them with eco-friendly paint.

Naturally, there will be a fair amount of waste produced and I need guidance on what to do with it. Most specifically the removed wallpaper, much of which is painted and/or contain bits of plaster. It is not suitable for recycling and I have reservation about burning it as it has glue and paint on it. I am thinking of taking it to the nearest household waste recycling centre and putting it in the general waste, which means it will end up in landfill. Is this the best option? At the moment it is lying in cardboard boxes awaiting disposal.

Any help would be gratefuly received.
