Ronan’s self-build ultra low energy home

FmK Architecture Ltd, Antrim

Ronan says; “FmK Architecture Ltd was founded in 2009 and towards the end of 2010 FmK decided to drop “basic/standard, building methods” to specialise in low-energy architecture.  After some extensive research, we came up with our own unique thermal detailing techniques which allow us to build low energy homes at an affordable low cost. In 2012 a new sister company called FmK ECOHomes was launched providing four pre-designed, pre-costed, low-energy low-cost Housetypes, ranging from £62K to £102K. Since the inception of the ECOHomes range in 2012, FmK have gained vast knowledge of low energy design, with onsite experience and ongoing research and development. FmK deliver homes and buildings that are comfortable but with very low running costs and a low carbon footprint. FmK are at the forefront of building technology, using details and systems such as airtightness, reduced cold bridging, heat recovery ventilation and renewable energies; which are integrated into the overall design to achieve exceptional performance levels. Towards the end of 2013 we also launched our very own ECO Store, providing low-energy and eco-products.   We had read about the AECB in different press over the years and hope that our involvement with the association may further enhance our knowledge base on new detailing methods, products and keep pushing the boundaries to build better and more efficient buildings.”
