New Passivhaus initiative from the AECB.
Following the success of CarbonLite, AECB has established a new not-for-profit organisation to create a centre of excellence for low energy and low carbon buildings. This will take forward and develop the work already undertaken within Carbonlite.
The new organisation, the Passivhaus Buildings Trust, is wholly owned by the AECB, but established as a separate company. It will have operational independence from the AECB, with its own staff and board of directors.
Passivhaus Buildings will have a linked membership association, offering joint PB and AECB membership. The process of inviting organisations to become founder members is now underway.
The AECB board believes that this is an exciting development which will play a significant role in transforming the UK construction industry. It will build on the huge base of expertise and experience within the AECB, while allowing the AECB itself to continue to play to its own strengths as the UK’s premier sustainable buildings networking organisation.
In the meantime, AECB CarbonLite continues to offer a range of services relating to the design and construction of low energy low carbon buildings, including to the Passivhaus standard. These services include:
- Energy standards and design guidance, including AECB Silver and Passivhaus, download from here (note some guidance only available to AECB members)
- A range of training courses and events, currently including Introduction to the Essentials of Passivhaus Design and Delivery using PHPP (the Passivhaus design and analysis software package) Passivhaus related conferences and other events.
- Purchase of the Passivhaus Institute Passivhaus Planning Package (PHPP) software.
- AECB's low energy buildings database - soon to be extended and enhanced to incorporate the Technology Strategy Board's Retrofit for the Future projects.
- Hosting the steering committee of UK Passivhaus Certifiers
