RIBA National Award for AECB member, Architype

The UK’s ‘greenest building’ scoops yet another award!

Congratulations to AECB members, Architype, on winning a RIBA National Award for the University of East Anglia (UEA) Enterprise Centre.

Many of our members will be familiar with this low carbon, thatch clad building as it was the venue of our 2016 Annual Conference.  It is a ground-breaking project showcasing genuinely low carbon architecture achieving the client’s aspiration of Passivhaus, BREEAM Outstanding and a 100 year performance cycle. Approximately half of the building consists of a variety of specialised commercial workspaces for local and start-up organisations, whilst the other half is for academic use.

The Enterprise Centre actively contributes to academic learning and research, and creatively supports the development of new, innovative business. As a wider contribution it raises the bar for what is achievable using local skills and materials. It encourages users to expect more comfort from their built environment and confirms that adopting sustainable design need not limit architectural achievement.
