Find out more about one of our recent graduates.
Congratulations to the latest students who have successfully completed our CarbonLite retrofit course! We offer graduates the opportunity to feature on our website here and they can also choose to be searchable through our Member Services Directory.
Richard Spencer from West Yorkshire successfully completed the retrofit course earlier in the year and has since also become qualified as a Passivhaus consultant which will allow him to make a much sought after career change from being a Chemical Engineer.
Richard’s interest in low energy building was ignited by attending Ecobuild many years ago and he was keen to get his own project underway. He joined the AECB in 2014 and has since started his own new build project aiming for Passivhaus certification and the AECB water standard and this is how he found out about the retrofit course.
Richard has been completing his new build project and studying, whilst on a career break and looking after his young family but once his project is finished later in the year, he will be setting up a low energy consultancy business. This is what he had to say about the course:
“A deep course in retrofit that addresses so many issues that are critical to doing this properly. I’ve learned so much from the materials, tutors and other participants and now feel a great enthusiasm to apply this knowledge to some projects of my own. Given the complexity of the subject and the diversity of the UK building stock I can see this as the beginning of a journey of discovery for clients, contractors and designers alike to define robust solutions and develop whole house retrofit plans. Everyone working in the built environment sector should be benefiting from training like this and moving away from single measure improvements to developing coordinated retrofits.”
We are now taking bookings for the course which starts in October 2017.
