Reflection’s journey started as a former derelict garden that was transformed into a beautiful, sustainable coastal home.
The original house at Edge O’ Cliff was constructed in the 1920’s as a 3 bedroom wooden chalet perched on the coastal slopes. By today’s standards it was wasteful of energy, uncomfortable and poorly arranged with a small coastal path as the only access. ARCO2 took on this tough challenge and used innovation and determination to design an also modest 3 bedroom home replacing the original structure.
ARCO2 were employed by our clients to design a replacement dwelling located near Wadebridge/Rock in Cornwall. The brief was to provide a site-specific and bespoke design tailored to the clients needs without compromising on energy efficiency. The structure was built using a super-insulated (carbon neutral) timber frame construction insulated with blown recycled newspaper, allowing for enhanced levels of thermal insulation over and above Part L requirements. The construction was made as airtight as possible by using a combination of intelligent Pro-clima air tightness tapes and membranes as well as certified airtight internal sheathing board Pro-Passive OSB3.
