Taking you from forest to sawmill, you will see how designs are translated into timber sections for low-carbon buildings, using 130+ years’ of expertise. From locally grown Larch, Douglas Fir and Oak to responsibly-sourced foreign hardwoods, find out more about designing with, and specifying, wood.
The day will include:
Visit to local forest and felling site to see species being grown and harvested
Local pub lunch provided
Tour of sawmill including following a log through the process: from selection and de-barking to the ‘saw shop’, plus drying, cutting and planing
The essentials of strength grading
