AECB Local Group Meeting – Airtightness Talk with Q and A
October 23 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
AECB has long been a champion of airtightness, but how well are we detailing? And how are our
contractors responding and taking up the challenge.
Our speaker for the evening will be Paul Jennings who has been airtightness testing for over 30
years. Primarily working in low-energy building in the UK, his track record includes the first
Passivhaus buildings in the UK (which were also retested after 10 years) and the UK’s most
complex airtightness testing to date, of a large block of newbuild council flats & maisonettes in
North London that required 8 sets of test equipment operating in parallel.
A regular speaker at AECB and PH conferences, he has trained many architects and builders in
assorted aspects of airtightness design and delivery, as well as being the first authorised trainer
of other airtightness testers in the UK. He has consulted on airtightness on numerous complex
projects, such as the refurbishment of the former Hong Kong embassy in Mayfair and the
newbuild Passivhaus swimming pool and leisure complex in Exeter. Paul also originated the
Airtightness Champions Training course, which has since become a key underpinning training for
contractors working towards the successful delivery of most large Passivhaus and EnerPHit
(Passivhaus refurbishment) projects in the UK.
