More about the Stone Cold Housing Event . . . . .
What is the best support for householders to reduce their energy use in
solid walled houses?
Stone Cold Housing, an Eco Centre Wales project has been trying to find
out the answer to this question. Advice on the ways homes can reduce
their heating energy use is polarised, or fails to acknowledge the
different requirements of older houses. The Stone Cold Housing Event
February 4th 2013 is an opportunity to hear about the latest research
and currents programmes such as ARBED.
The event will have expert speakers from the Buildings Research
Establishment, Eco Centre Wales, and AECB but will also aims to gather
opinion from those who attend. The focus of the event will be how to
advise householders on the different options to reduce their heating
fuel use. This will include insulation measures, heating options and
behaviour change. We hope to consider how the advice would be tailored
to householders in differing situations. This will be an excellent
opportunity for AECB members to share their expertise in this area.
Time will also be spent looking at the options from a designers or
installers’ point of view, including statutory requirements. This event
will also coincide with the full launch of the Green Deal. Finance is
often cited as the main barrier to the thermal improvement of older
homes. We will examine on the day how this will impact on the advice for
householders, and how it may impact on professionals. We will also
looking at whether there are other measures or behaviours which may give
householders better value than the Green Deal.
Confirmed Speakers: Colin King, Associate Director BRE Wales, Steve
Woosey Manager ECW, Chris Lord Smith, Llani Solar ltd (AECB).
