Local Group in the North East to meet up in January and February
January 4, 2012 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Mark Siddall of the North East Group has planned two get togethers at the beginning of 2012. The first of these is on Wednesday 4th January 2012 followed by another proposed for 1st February.
The regular meetings in Newcastle, at The Bridge Hotel, Newcastle, Tyne and Wear, NE1 1RQ, start at 6.30 p.m
Mark Siddall, is the leader of the North East Local Group.
Mark has his own architectural practice and sustainability consultancy and, through undertaking the position as Senior Lecturer in Construction at Northumbria University, is making a concerted effort to assist the construction industry with the delivery of low energy / low carbon buildings. On all fronts his interest is, as ever, that the buildings perform well, not only in theory but in reality also.
Feedback on the meeting . . . . .
As attendance was fairly low in retrospect it was perhaps a little to soon after all of the festivities. Key topics that were raised included the theme of the next meeting, David MacKay’s book Sustainability Without the Hot Air and a number of the sustainable low energy projects in the area that group members are currently working on.
It was proposed that the subject for the next meeting would be sustainable acoustics; to be presented by local acoustician, and AECB member, Jack Harvie-Clarke of Apex Acoustics. The aim will be to define ‘sustainable acoustics’ and determine how it may be delivered in practice. As Jack’s company also undertakes air leakage pressure testing it will be interesting to gain an understanding of how the two subject areas interact (one preferring separation and the other continuity) and how any conflicts may be resolved.
