Post Meeting Comments:
Marek Simoncic of Velox was keen to hear the comments by AECB members about this fast system of building – especially in view of the potential interest of Local Authority projects.
In particular Chris Shaw has given him some helpful advice including the type of spacers being used and suggested an alternative to the sheets of welded steel fabric reinforcement in the first floor slab were being lapped as this is a very outdated practice and not in accordance with the current recommendations and best practice.
The Hampshire Group has been invited to revisit this site – a pilot for the Velox building system in the UK. It will be interesting to see if this permanent formwork lives up to its claims in terms of thermal performance and airtightness. The materials – using a combination of wood shavings and cement – are the same as the Durisol system but in a different form. Both systems have been looked at by the Hampshire Group who will be discussing the pros and cons of both systems at a future meeting.
