Somerset, Wiltshire, Avon and Dorset (SWAD) Group Meetings for later in 2012

Mark Kingsley of the Somerset, Wiltshire, Avon and Dorset Group SWAD – has organised a presentation on the research work of the BRE Centre for Innovative Construction Materials at Bath University

The evening will be hosted by Professor Pete Walker, Director, BRE Centre for Innovative Construction Materials (BRE CICM) and includes a tour of their laboratories facilities. www.bath.ac.uk/bre

The presentation will focus on their work on low carbon materials and technologies, including hemp-lime, prefab straw bale, unfired clay and timber based technologies.

Some information on the speaker . . . .

Pete Walker, BSc, PhD, MIEAust CPEng, MICE CEng,  is the BRE Trust Professor and Director of the BRE Centre for Innovative Construction Materials and current Head of Civil Engineering. His research interests include renewable materials (prefabricated straw bale; hemp-lime), modern earth building, lime mortared masonry and innovative timber engineering.

Pete Walker is a chartered civil engineer and a member of both the Institution of Engineers Australia and The Institution of Civil Engineers (UK).

Pete studied at Sheffield City Polytechnic, now Sheffield Hallam University, (BSc Civil Engineering) and the University of Edinburgh (PhD Structural Engineering). Having previously worked in Zimbabwe (University of Zimbabwe) and Australia (University of New England), Pete joined the University of Bath in 1998. He was promoted to Professor in 2006 on becoming Director of the newly formed BRE Centre for Innovative Construction Materials.

Since joining Bath he has led various research projects, having attracted funding as PI or CI from the BRE Trust, Carbon Connections, DEFRA, the European Commission (EACI), EPSRC, FP7, Knowledge Transfer Partnerships, Great Western Research, and the Technology Strategy Board (TSB). Pete has also received substantial financial and in-kind support from a number of SME and large scale industrial partners.
