The problems with stuff: using less, reducing impact – and can we decarbonise what’s left?

July 14 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

About Judith

My name is Judith Thornton. I work at Aberystwyth University in the Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences (IBERS). My main current interest is in innovations in plant based building materials, and I work as part of the BEACON project which is supported by the European Regional Development Fund, through the Welsh Government.

Previous positions have included in Civil Engineering (University of Leeds), Welsh School of Architecture (Cardiff University), Civil Engineering (University of Padua, Italy), and the Centre for Alternative Technology, Machynlleth (CAT). I held various positions at CAT, including as a Senior Lecturer on their MSc courses, and as Head of Biology, during which time I was in charge of all their water and sewage systems. In parallel I have also undertaken self-employed work, mostly in the fields of small scale water supply and sewage treatment systems. Consequently, a lot of my blog posts will be about watery things…
