Webinar: Retrofit challenges of retrofitting damp masonry walls with Dr Eric Rirsch & Clementine Walker, Safeguard Europe
June 18 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pmFree
Retrofit challenges of retrofitting masonry walls: damp, salt laden masonry.
Dr Eric Rirsch and Clementine Walker will be looking at the fundamentals of damp protection – including the visual manifestation of moisture and analysis of the problem. Moisture transport mechanisms related to rising and penetrating damp and rain wetting will be covered, as well as the resultant problematic consequences. The presentation will move on to illustrate how to control and manage damp, looking at hydrophobic vapour open brick and stone creams which act as vertical and horizontal capillary breaks in old masonry. A particular focus will be looking at how to manage moist salt laden masonry using salt blocking/absorbing plasters, as well as good tanking membrane detailing to avoid ‘simply pushing problems around’. The Sharp Front model of rising damp will be looked at as well as an overview of the geographic distribution of the UK’s ground water and penetrating rain problems.
