Dense blockwork or Lightweight blockwork

I was having a debate elsewhere on the site about the merits/problems of using lightweight blockwork as an inner skin.
A suggestion was to open it up to a wider audience.

Our position is, as designers we can't control workmanship on site. So we use partial fill cavities and lightweight blockwork as an inner skin which is rendered and skimmed.

What's the concensus.

Is dense blockwork preferred, is there major problems with lightweight blockwork and render.
