Go to Forum Home › Building Design › Extension design to PH standard?
I am doing a large extension (40 sq m), single storey, to the rear of a 3 storey Victorian detached house.
Is there benefit to designing the extension to Passivhaus standard if the main house is not fully retrofitted and there is not an airtight layer between the extension and the main house?
It is likely that the windows in the main house will be replaced and the roof insulation will be upgraded. However, it is not practical to create an airtight layer or insulate the solid masonry walls or suspended timber floors.
Any thoughts would be very welcome.
