  There was a thread some while ago about external unfinished timber cladding and its weathering behaviour in different situations. TRADA is just starting some research into this, though they don't give a completion date in the summary, link below.
  It looks like they'd be interested to hear from cladding suppliers to participate in additional trials alongside the main project :
