We are looking at the efficiency of immersion heaters and trying to determine how long it should be used before being replaced and how it's efficiency decreases with age? Generally they are only replaced when the occupier notices their water is cold but during it's lifetime its efficiency must be effected by things like scale build up and general degradation.
Does anyone know of a method for checking efficiency on these or have an idea when it's efficiency becomes diminished enough to warrant replacement?
How would its efficiency be reduced by scale or anything else? You put a kWh of electricity in and it gets turned into heat. Inches of scale wouldn't change that at all.
I'd be most interested to know who 'we' are that want to replace them before they fail? 'They' don't seem very green-minded.
