Tagged: Penetrating damp, stone sills
I have just replaced the windows in my Victorian bays, and it appears that the stone sills on the upper floor have become porous. This means that when it rains and is windy water comes through the sills and drips into the cavity. As I leave near the sea and have a SW aspect this is quite often. Apparently, porous stone sills are not uncommon, but I cannot find any remedy for this beyond replacing the window sill. Can anyone recommend a solution or point me in the direction of someone who may be able to help.
Hi Rachael,
I suggest that you look at this site: http://www.stormdry.com/
Treating the sills should be a DIY job. Remember to remove all paint and loose material first. All exposed surfaces need treatment, not just the tops.

Tim Gilbert
