The energy we use in our homes is a major contributor to the carbon dioxide we produce – as well as our household bills. To help you save energy, money and carbon emissions, the Ecology Building Society have developed a series of award-winning mortgage discounts.
If you’re building or buying an eco-home, the sustainable homes discount from the Ecology Building Society could offer a discount of up to 1.25% from the Standard Variable Rate (4.90% – the overall cost for comparison is 5.1% APR).
The level of discount offered depends on the energy standard achieved in your home – so the more efficient your home is, the more you save on your mortgage.
Discounts range from 0.50% to 1.25% from the Standard Variable Rate, depending on the energy standard achieved.
The discounts can be based on a range of ratings schemes:
- Energy Performance Certificate (EPC)
- Code for Sustainable Homes
- Eco Homes
- AECB the sustainable building association
- Passivhaus
The discount is applied to your mortgage as soon as the home’s rating is confirmed – so payments are reduced from day one and remain in place for the duration of the mortgage.
