Company philosophy

Green Building Store is committed to offering leading edge products for low energy buildings. We are at the forefront of introducing Passivhaus products and design into the UK.

We aim to offer high performance, high quality products and to act as a ‘centre of excellence’, promoting best practice in low carbon and sustainable construction.

Environmental Policy

Green Building Store has an active environment policy - updated regularly - which reports on the company's environmental performance and outlines strategies and targets.

Materials Sourcing

Our PERFORMANCE and ULTRA window & door ranges all use FSC timber, and the Company has full FSC Chain of Custody under the Soil Association's Woodmark scheme.

The Company tries to assess its suppliers as carefully as possible:
Green Building Store has a wide range of UK and European partners/ suppliers. Many of these are small-medium sized manufacturers of environmentally-sensitive building products.
Before entering into a significant relationship with a new supplier, Green Building Store makes efforts to research the company’s environmental performance and practices. It does this using a variety of sources, including Ethical Consumer Research Association.

Energy Efficiency

We aim to offer leading edge products with outstanding thermal performance. Our window & door ranges offer U values ranging from 0.85 W/m2K (PERFORMANCE) to 0.68 W/m2K (PROGRESSION, Passivhaus certified).

We have been at the forefront of introducing Passivhaus design & products into the UK, launching a specialist range (including certified Passivhaus windows and MVHR systems) in early 2009 to help encourage the uptake of Passivhaus design in the UK.

Reducing the environmental footprint of the business

Recent achievements have included: reducing office lighting consumption by 50% installing secondary glazing in production workshop and providing storage and shower facilities for staff cyclists.

scope Green Building Store supplied its high performance ES4 water-efficient WCs and Airflush waterless urinals.
aims A major washroom refurbishment was carried out by Metro in 2009 to resolve a number of maintenance issues. Saving water was also a priority, as part of Metro\\\'s environment and sustainability policy.
measures The ES4 WC offers ultra low 4 litre flush combined with a robust siphon flush mechanism, meaning that the flush system will never leak water down the pan, unlike low flush WCs using valve flush mechanisms. The ES4 uses a Swedish-designed toilet pan, specially designed to work effectively with low flush volume, and is WRAS-approved as well as being listed on the Government’s Water Technology list. The Airflush urinal offers a revolutionary waterless system, which also does not require consumables, cartridges or oils. Instead it combines an ergonomically designed urinal bowl with a small integral low wattage fan, which creates negative pressure, maintaining a gentle flow of air down the urinal bowls and removing all odour.
monitoring Huddersfield bus station figures 2009-10:
Water consumption reduced by 38% (compared to previous year)
£6,551.26 cut in water bill per annum 2009-10.
£949.84 cut in emergency maintenance call-out bill per annum 2009-10
Annual total cost savings = £7.5K
