Stamford RoadProject Date 2017
Open plan living at Stamford Road.
scope Full Architectural Service
aims The client asked us to unlock their home’s potential in what turned out to be a challenging project. Their aim was to improve a poor front façade and create a more welcoming approach to the house. They also hoped to open up a maze of smaller living spaces to create a large open plan living space with a fantastic relationship to the garden. Comfort and energy efficiency were also important requirements.
measures Retrofit which included external wall insulation, improved roof insulation, additional floor insulation, high performance windows, MVHR, improved airtightness.
monitoring Project achieved air permeability of 3.93m³/hr.m². Energy consumption: 49 kWh/m2.a

aims We’ve taken a dark, dated and small feeling bungalow facing a stunning valley view and turned it modern, spacious and light-filled home. Two small extensions, a full reconfiguration internally and some strategically placed rooflights have transformed the internal space.
measures A full retrofit of the building fabric including triple glazed windows, internal wall insulation, a new heavily insulated roof and an insulated floor; very careful air-tightness work and a mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR) system has made it a wonderfully warm and quiet building in which to live.
monitoring Energy consumption: 48 kWh/m2.a
Cinder Bridge RoadProject Date 2016
New rear extension to existing stone cottage.
scope Architectural Design Service
aims The proposal was to demolish two poor existing extensions and construct a single new extension to the rear of the property that keeps a simple massing and greatly improve the internal spatial arrangement and the aesthetic of the house. Extensive energy efficiency improvements were also carried out which were sympathetic to the historic nature of the existing house.
measures Highly insulated new rear extension. Hemp plaster to existing building. New roof insulation. New triple glazed windows. Improved airtightness.
