AECB’s Silver Standard

AECB members are encouraged to build to our Silver Standard. It is aimed at those wishing to create high-performance buildings using widely available technology at little or no extra cost. We estimate that this low-risk option will reduce overall CO2 emissions by 70% compared to the UK average for buildings of each type – a highly significant result given the relative ease and low cost with which this standard can be met. Individual self-builders and large-scale residential and non-residential developers could make a valuable contribution to low-carbon building by meeting this standard. If you build to this standard you can certify » Read More

The AECB Building Standard (previously called Silver standard) self certification system

The AECB Standard Certification is a self-certification scheme open to building projects that meet the AECB Building Standard design and performance criteria. The AECB self certification route has been developed whereby the self certifier (typically the building’s energy consultant) takes responsibility for certification and for underwriting the building standard claim. The AECB has provided a form of declaration for completion by the certifying consultant but will deliberately not audit or take responsibility for the certification.

Silver Standard Certification

The AECB is excited to be working with Pheriche to develop a simple on-line, self-certification route for its CarbonLite Silver Standard. The self-certification scheme will be available on-line through the Low Energy Buildings database in the late summer (August). As the CarbonLite Silver standard is based on the same design and assessment methodology underpinning Passivhaus (but with a different space heating target), those interested in certifying their projects, will need to ensure their buildings have been designed and modelled using the Passivhaus Planning Program (PHPP). Details of how to self certify projects on-line will be available over the coming weeks.
